What is Growing Through Thyme?


We're a mom-and-daughter mail club for people who love history, nature, and gardening. Every month, we send you a real letter from our own garden, the true (and often surprising) history behind one heirloom flower, and real seeds to grow it yourself — the old-fashioned way, through the mail.

What's actually inside each envelope?
It depends on your tier:

  • Garden Pals ($9/mo): A real letter from us, an Heirloom Flower Spotlight card, and a postcard made to be mailed.
  • Grow Together ($13/mo): Everything in Garden Pals, plus a real seed packet and a small garden memo pad.
  • Postmistress ($18/mo): Everything in Grow Together, plus 2-3 real postage stamps, so you can send that postcard — or a letter of your own — right back out into the world.
How does the subscription timeline work?
To ensure you receive your package right at the beginning of every month, we bill and ship during the final week of the previous month.

When will I be billed?
  • Existing Subscribers (Monthly): You will be automatically billed on the 20th of each month for the upcoming month's box.
  • New Subscribers: Your first charge happens the day you sign up. After that, your renewals will align with our standard 20th of the month schedule.
What is the monthly cutoff date?
Our cutoff date is the 19th of the month.
  • If you subscribe on or before the 19th, you will receive the upcoming month's box.
  • If you subscribe on or after the 20th, your order will count toward the following month's box so you don't miss out on a full cycle.

When will my box ship?
All subscription boxes ship out together on the 25th of the month via USPS

When will I get my first mailing?
We mail once a month, on the 25th. Subscribe by the 19th, and you'll recieve your envelope the first week of the upcoming month. Subscribe after the 19th, and your first envelope will arrive the following month.

Can I pause my subscription?
Yes — you're always in control. Log into your account any time to pause your subscription, and pick back up whenever you're ready. No need to message us, though we're always happy to help if you'd rather do it that way.

Can I cancel anytime?
Absolutely. You can cancel through your account at any time, no questions asked.

Do you offer an annual option?
Yes — prepay for a full year and save. Annual subscriptions don't auto-renew, so it makes a genuinely no-strings gift. If you're subscribing for yourself and want to keep going, we'll reach out near the end of your year to make it easy to continue.

Is this a good gift?
We think so — it's one of the most common reasons people sign up. Choose the annual option and it arrives as a full year of surprises with nothing further for the recipient to manage.

Will the seeds actually grow? I'm new to gardening.
Every flower we feature is chosen with real beginners in mind, and each Spotlight card includes everything you need to know: hardiness zone, soil and light needs, and when to sow. No experience required — just a little patience.

What if a flower is toxic or needs special handling?
We'll always tell you plainly. Some heirloom flowers are beautiful but not meant to be eaten or handled carelessly — we flag anything like that clearly on the Spotlight card.

Do you ship internationally?
Currently we are only mailing in the U.S. 

What if my mail arrives damaged or doesn't show up?
Reach out to us directly and we'll make it right. We're a small, real operation — if something goes wrong, we want to know.

Can I send the postcard to someone else?
That's exactly what it's there for. Every postcard is designed to be mailed as-is — write a note, add a stamp (already included if you're on The Postmistress), and send a little happy mail to someone who could use it.

How do I know what flower is coming next?
We keep it a surprise — that's half the fun. But we promise every flower has a real story worth waiting for.
